Hurricane Sally will be Impacting Central Alabama

 Good Afternoon/Evening Central Al,


The time is now to prepare for Hurricane Sally as it gets closer and closer to Alabama. Make sure your emergency supplies kit is stocked up and ready to go. Have a plan ready to active if you have to move to higher ground due to Flash Flooding or a tornado warning is issued for your area. 


Track of Hurricane Sally: The latest track of Hurricane Sally is below. We will get a new advisory at 4pm CST/ 5pm EST. 

Flash Flooding Impacts: We could be seeing a Significant Flash Flooding setting up here in Central Alabama. The NWS office has issued a Flash Flood Watch for counties along I-20 and south of the corridor. Rainfall rates per hour is 2-3 inches per hour and total rates 6-12 inches of rainfall with localy higher amounts in the Watch area. Graphic below. 

Wind Impact: Gusty Winds are expecting with 30-40mph reside in the thunderstorms associated with Sally. Sustained winds of 15-20mph with gusts 25-30mph could reside South and SouthWest Alabama. A Wind Advisory may or may not be needed we will have to see. Tropical Storm-Force winds graphics below. 

Threat of Brief Spin Up Tornadoes: The threat is low and depends on the track of Sally. If there will be a threat it would be for South and Southeast Central Alabama. 

State of Emergency: Governor Kay Ivey has issued a State of Emergency for Alabama ahead of Hurricane Sally. The SOE can found at: State of Emergency

Beaches Closing Today: Along with the order of the State of Emergency, Governor Ivey has ordered all Alabama Beaches to close at 3m CST today ahead of preparedness and caution of Hurricane Sally.

Voluntary Evacuations Now Issued: Along with Gov. Ivey's order Mobile and Baldwin counties are recommended to evacuate. More info can be found in the SOE. 

First Alert Weather Day: I have now issued a First Alert Weather day starting tomorrow at 2pm through Thursday at 5pm.
