Good Evening Alabama,
Let's get right into it regarding Saturday's Severe Weather Day.....
Wind Advisory: The Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile NWS offices have issued a Wind Advisory for all of their county coverage area.
Changes Out to our West: The SPC has upgraded parts of Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana under a Moderate risk (Level 4 out of 5).
Threats: No changes since the last post. Flash Flooding, Hail, Damaging Winds between 65-75mph, lightning, heavy rain, tornadoes (which some could be strong and longed tracked; the strength could be between EF-0 through EF-5s.
Timing: Not much change, in timing as of now appears of 10AM through 8PM. 11AM through 4PM for our western counties. 12PM through 7PM for I-65 corridor and down into Montgomery. 3PM through 8PM for our eastern counties.
Could we see Super-cells (AKA: Discrete Cells)? Yes, possibility especially ahead of the line. Those are the ones that could be long-tracked and strong. The best chances of that would be any where from Hamilton, Fayette, Jasper, Oak Grove, Adger, Northport, Downtown Tuscaloosa, Dempolis, Selma, and Mobile; mainly West of I-65 and South of I-20/59.
Temperatures: The temps will be anywhere from 65-73 degrees across the state of Alabama. So very juicy air-mass for severe storms to occur.
Dewpoints: We could see dewpoints anywhere between 60-72 degrees on Saturday.
First Alert Weather Day: As of this morning, I have issued a First Alert Weather Day for Saturday. Also, all weather instruments and equipment has also been activated.
Not Scaring you but Informing you: We do not want to scare you, but we want to inform you about the potential this system can be and the strength of it. So when you do go under a Tornado Warning you are not caught off guard at any point!
Prepare Now: Friday night before you go to bed, put all of your electronics on charge in case you lose power. Have multiple ways to receive weather info and warning and watches. Download the local weather apps. Make sure you signed up for Everbridge; a notification system to alert you of bad weather. Go to the Jefferson County EMA's website for more info and to sign up. Have any medications and important papers in a slip lock bag to take to you when you go to your safe shelter.
Look for the next blogpost here by 11AM tomorrow!!!
